Jack began carving in 1996 when he enrolled in a wood sculpturing class at Cerritos Collage in Norwalk, CA. He specialized in caricature cowboys and occasionally ventured into other subjects. Following his retirement Jack moved to Fallbrook, CA. There he joined the California Carvers Guild, Fallbrook Carvers and Craft-T-Carvers RV Carving Club. Jack began woodturning in 2003 taking classes at Palomar College in 2009. He joined San Diego woodturners and in 2010 got involved with the Wounded Warriors program teaching woodturning and carving to recovering Marines at Camp Pendleton. Jack moved to Ohio in 2016 to be closer to his family. He joined BWWT at that time and has been an active member of our club teaching, hosting workshops and being a key player in our collaborative project.

I have been involved in woodworking since I was teenager. Most of my work was “flat work” making cabinets, shelfs and whatever might be needed for friends and family. I had a lathe prior to joining the club, but only did simple spindles and really did not know how to use the basic tools that came with the lathe. I now own two lathes, one is the JET VS1221 which I will be using for the demonstration, the other is a Robust Sweet Sixteen.
I have been turning Christmas ornaments since 2000. I make anywhere from 30-60 ornaments a year for family and friends. The ornaments are all original designs. I embellish them with some basic line carving. In 2014 I joined BWWT after seeing members demonstrating at the Minerva Art and Jazz festival. |

THE BWWT CHALLENGE!!
What can YOU turn from a block of wood?
Well - you're going to have a chance to show everyone.
There will be 3 - 4 Challenges per year.
Each challenge will consist of 10 turners.
Each turner will be given a block of wood approximately the same size.
The goal is to return the block - "completed".
What "completed" means is up to the turner.
Completed projects will be judged by the members present at the meeting.
1) Best Overall, 2) Honorable Mention, 3) Most Creative
