The BWWT CHALLENGE
The Challenge:
Challenges will take place 3 or 4 times per year.
At the specified meeting BWWT will give a block of wood to members who wish to participate in the challenge.

Block sizes (approximate) given away per challenge (1 size per challenge):
6”x6”x2” (bowl?)
8”x8”x3” (bowl?)
3” x 3” x 10” (spindle?)
All wood is the same species.

Maximum:
Maximum of 10 pieces of wood per challenge will be given to members.
If there are more than 10 people, participants will be chosen by drawing.
Member takes the block home and makes something from it.
Restrictions:
You may only use the block that was given out – no additional woods or external pieces.
Example of an external piece not permitted – metal, glass, other non-wood, or wood NOT from
original piece of wood.
You may cut up the block and re-orient the pieces.
Each entry must be made on a lathe with off lathe embellishments optional.
Embellishments are defined as: pieces of wood from the original wood blank, paint, dye, carving,
pyrography, piercing, or treatments similar to the above mentioned.
Glues, epoxy, resins are permitted for gluing the wood together, filling voids, &/or finishing the surface,
but not for the use of creating new pieces in which to turn.
Powered metals, crushed class, beads, seeds, etc. used in the finish or filling voids (natural or carved)
are acceptable.
Following the AAW ban on fractal or Lichtenberg burning, pieces will not be permitted if this process is used.
BWWT officers will have final say on completed work to ensure it meets judging criteria.
Return and Voting:
At the next meeting entries should be returned for display and voting.
Members at the meeting will select the winning piece as follows:
▪ Best overall (most votes).
▪ Honorable mention (second highest vote count).
▪ Most creative (separate vote).
▪ 2 votes will take place – best piece and most creative.
Each winner will receive a $20 gift card
