Presenting Don Horn
Acorn Boxes and Birdhouses
For thirty years I watched my dad turn beautiful vases, bowls and platters winning awards. He had been after me for years to get into turning but I felt I didn't have the patience or the ability to use a lathe. Besides I watched him work weeks on a vase or bowl only to have it crack or warpe or worse, he'd cut through a side or his epoxy would go south. And I didn't want to do what every other turner was doing. In other words it had all been done before and there would be nothing new.
But one day he called to say a guy was selling his whole wood shop for 5k. So 6 years ago I bought it, more to satisfy him than myself. So now when my wife yells my dinner is getting cold and she has to eat alone, the grass is half way to my knees and the gutters and down spouts over flow when it rains I just tell her, "it's dads fault". But my wife and I are deep into the BWWT for the rest of our days on this planet. She sets behind me carving and wood burning while I turn on the lathe. Thanks dad! |
