The sphere is nature’s most perfect shape. It is a precision form easily defined by mathematical equations.
Tom Cummings and Terry Elfers demonstrated how to turn a perfectly round ball, as well as a football. Their ball jig has evolved over many iterations to be a very simple and precision machine. They demonstrated how to make a ball jig, in detail. Click HERE for a detailed copy of the directions. Additionally they demonstrated how to make and use a very efficient vacuum chuck; how to use a "wave bowl" jig and how to turn display stands for your spheres. We had a great time and learned the advantages of working with jigs. |
Click HERE for photos of our 2015 meeting at Doll Each year Doll Lumber hosts a summer meeting for Buckeye Woodworkers and Woodturners. This year we will be joined by our neighbors to the North from the North Coast Woodturners Club.
Our time at Doll Lumber this year will include a short business meeting followed by a detailed discussion of how different finishes look on different woods. There will be numerous examples shown followed by an in-depth Q&A session. Doll Lumber offers tours of their saw mill, a chainsaw demonstration and lots of time to look over their extensive turning stock and flat stock. A Picnic lunch will be provided and Doll has a GREAT stocked fishing pond if you care to try your luck. Come join your friends and fellow woodworkers! Check out the Doll Lumber website for more information. www.dolllumber.com |
