Bob Taylor - Making Bandsaw Boxes
In Bob is an avid pen turner. He started tuning pens in 2009 after seeing some wooden pens displayed at a Shopsmith "Traveing Academy”. He took a “Pen Turning class" at a Woodcraft store and was hooked. Bob said "In the beginning I turned wood pens like everyone else and wondered what else I could make a pen from. I next tried grapevines and had good results and then moved on to corn cobs, pinecones, my wife's lilac bush, denim and even "dryer lint”. I sell my pens at about seven craft shows per year mostly in the area but I have traveled to the Chicago area about six times with good results. I am beginning to turn other items now but expect that I will always turn pens.”
In 2009 Bob attended a Bandsaw Box class at Woodcraft and found that very interesting also - interesting enough to do a demonstration for the club in 2012 that was very well received. For ten weeks in the summer Bob works with other BWWT members on Wednesday evenings to demonstrate and teach teenagers at the Akron area YMCA's summer camp Y-Noah some turning skills. He strongly believes in this effort to help pass on the turning skills to the next generation. Bob joined BWWT in July, 2007 and was President of the Club in 2013. We are all anxious to see his demonstration. |
