Tips and Tricks for
Creating Inside-Out Turnings
My interest in Inside-Out turnings began from an internet video I saw created by Lloyd Johnson using Sketch-Up. I downloaded Sketch-up and started to duplicate what Lloyd was demonstrating. The process was fascinating to me! I soon viewed dozens of Youtube Videos on the subject. Then I went to the lathe. Wow - what a reality check. What you can do with a design tool and what looks pretty easy on a video turns out to be more challenging than I expected. I was hooked!
Most of the Youtube Videos I've seen focus on creating Christmas Ornaments. While that is certainly ONE of the uses for this technique - it is NOT the only thing you can produce that takes advantage of this unique turning style. I hope to show you a few ideas along with some things I've learned to make this technique safer and easier execute.
