Turning a Honey Pot and Honey Dipper
I have been involved in woodworking since I was a teenager. Most of my work at that time involved “flat work” making cabinets, shelves and whatever might be needed for friends and family. I had a lathe prior to joining the club, but had only used it for simple spindles and really did not know how to properly use the four tools that came with it. I started making some simple basswood ornament shapes in 2000.
In 2014 I joined the BWWT club after seeing members demonstrate turning at the Minerva Ohio Art and Jazz Festival.
I started to embellish the ornaments with simple carving in 2019. Each year I try to increase my turning and carving skills. My carving and painting are at a beginner’s level, but may serve as a stimulus to other wood turners to explore carving their pieces.
Most of my turnings are smaller items such as the Christmas ornaments, boxes and vases. I occasionally will turn a platter or bowl. In addition, I make “Pens for Troops”.
I have participated/exhibited in the following events:
